What Is the Dental Pain Eraser?
The Dental Pain Eraser is a new device that helps with dental pain management by utilizing neuromodulation technology to block pain signals at the source. Neuromodulation sends gentle, imperceptible electrical impulses toward a specific area of the body to cause a different, non-pain signal in the brain to be perceived resulting in fast, safe, and effective pain relief. Neuromodulation has been used in the medical field for pain management for a wide variety of cases from simple headaches to severe spinal cord damage.
How Does It Work?
The dental pain eraser works by applying gentle electrical impulses to block three different pain responses that patients often experience in the mouth:
- Pain fibers firing in the odontoblasts – this is what patients experience when they have sensitive teeth
- Pain sensory fibers in the periodontal complex – this is what patients experience during tooth movement
- Neuropeptide pain response – this is what patients experience when they have swollen and inflamed gums
All three of these pain responses are affected by a neuropeptide called Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). In response to any of the three pain responses listed above, the body will send CGRP to the brain which will then cause the brain to perceive pain. The gentle electrical impulses from the Dental Pain Eraser impedes CGRP from going to the brain which reduces the pain experienced by the patient.
